OUR STORY

“I AM SHE “the future of Sports in INDIA, a tailored project exclusively for the Girl children, initiated by Bangalore Schools Sports Foundation, changing lives and providing hope for those girls who face adversity and challenges in situations we may never experience

The project focuses mainly on underprivileged girls ages 6 to 18 who never had the opportunity or been given the opportunity to play sports, we reach out to them through partnerships with responsible organizations, care and support centers that are well established in local undeserved communities

Our aim is to create active sports participation & opportunities for those girls, educate and empower them through the right to play sport module creating a safe space to overcome economic, social and cultural barriers, instill leadership skills, and promote awareness

Project “I AM SHE “creates a great learning environment, through sport, teaching valuable lessons to life, developing social skills, self-esteem, self-confidence preparing them to face challenges they are facing in their communities today

Sport is a force for change and gender equality and through sport the girls will learn about their rights and their abilities to be leaders and assume roles of responsibility in the future.

Through sports the girls will learn about sportsmanship ethics and values which they will shadow in all aspects of their lives and will pass it on to their friends and to their children in the future.

One of the key aspects of project I AM SHE will identify best talents and groom them for the future of sports in the country

Adolescent girls have the right to play Sports during these critical formative years as they matured into womanhood effective support and mentorship is needed during the adolescent years. Girls have the potential to change the world. Adolescent girls uphold their rights today and promises a more equitable and prosperous future.

I AM SHE – The future of sports in India a Sports module will be a simple low cost and effective means of investment in the lives of these adolescent girls who hail from the most economic and vulnerable community

However, when they enter the second decade of their life there has been insufficient investment being made in addressing challenges faced by underprivileged girl children in every day of their life. This includes obtaining quality secondary and higher education, avoiding child marriage, receiving information and services related to puberty, reproductive health, and protecting themselves against unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease and gender-based violence.

I AM SHE ELVIS

Sports and healthy lifestyle have never been an agenda or priority to their life. Half of humanity has been an equal partner in solving the problems of climate change, political conflict, economic growth, disease prevention, and global sustainability. But addressing these issues towards underprivileged girl children and their right to live has been neglected,

Though the International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights the need to support and recognize the achievements by the current and upcoming generation of adolescent girls will help build a sustainable and equitable world.

Discrimination against girls in India has been going on since ages for now; even today there are several sections of the Indian society where girls are treated as a burden. Girls are often restricted to confines of house and given very little opportunities to learn and grow in life, it is a matter of great shame that cases of FEMALE INFANTICIDE are still reported ….in such a scenario the role of the government and NGO becomes all the more important in order to ensure that girl children are allowed to be born and flourish in life.

Bangalore Schools Sports Foundation, Project “IAM SHE – THE FUTURE OF SPORTS IN INDIA “focuses primarily on empowering the most underprivileged girl children in the society who live below the poverty level.

These families live in living standards that are among the poorest in the world. Sports, Education, Healthcare, Nutrition, is by far out of a poor man’s reach. 40% of the populations in the metropolitan and large cities live in urban slums, where primary healthcare is provided by health posts. Most of the health posts are located outside the slum areas, making accessibility difficult. Sports Education Health and Wellness is every child’s right but problems like lack of quality infrastructure, shortage of experienced functionaries and non-access to basic facilities.

The need of the hour is to work collectively towards promoting health in areas, where the poor children manage to survive.

The role of sports and education is extremely important and goes a long way in grooming and empowering these young girls, we believe the process of sports and education has to begin early in life numerous benefits come with educating girls in the right way, it is rightly said that when a woman is educated the entire generation benefits from it

There is an urgent need to change the archaic mindset of the patriarchal society which views girls as liabilities, it needs to be established given the right chance to nurture their talents and skills they have it in them to excel in different areas of life.

Bangalore Schools Sports Foundation outreach project I AM SHE – The future of Sports in India works for girl children providing equal opportunity in sports, education, gender equality, humanitarian situations and support during crisis situations.

Apart from working on the ground our core focuses will be advocacy and influencing policy, we believe that through our sports programmes we will be able to address issues and concerns and help improve the health and wellness of these underprivileged girl children through sports support their education and take them out of child labour, child marriage, child pregnancies abuse and critical situations
